Song of the Day: Desmond Dekker-Isrealites.

Few people know of my time spent immersed in the underground 60’s scene. Weekenders and all nighters in the UK and Europe..that i may or may not have attended on a shit ton of speed.

They incorporate all genres of the era, psych, freakbeat, garage, soul, ska/rocksteady. The latter of which i love and have always been planning to start my 7” collection. However, im an intolerable completist, so if im gonna go in to a genre, i must go in all the way.

Well, it happened. And it IS as time consuming and expensive as i feared. i may need to schedule a trip to the bank for a loan…thats if i can find the time in the midst of obsessive trolling..

For anyone who want to learn about ska/rocksteady, theres no one better to start with than Desmond Dekker

Im actually embarrassed that ive never seen this until just now.

Its one of my favorite DJ 45s since it was a single only track. which is unfortunate for me, since no one has ever appreciated it at a gig..:(

But thats off point here..

Obv the awkward, hastily done chroma key is amazing, but my fave thing is Enos delivery. He underperforms in a way that doesnt look bored, affected nor uncomfortable….Genius!

not only is there a 50 year back-catalog to choose from but my ONLY tattoo is of the Rolling Stones tongue logo, so im surprised im able to actually name one favorite Stones song. but i can, and this is it. (especially impressive being that it reminds me of a bad experience on a certain wild grown fungus..)

YouTube rarely lets me down, but im disappointed that no obsessive Roxy Music fan has uploaded any of the out of print documentary, Total Recall.

There’s a live version of ‘Would You Believe’ from the first Roxy album with Brian Eno’s vocals heavy in the mix that im fixated on seeing again.

one of the extremely rare records i can listen to start to finish. my test is ‘can i put the record and clean my apartment undisturbed?’

the answer is yes.

the video contains a narrative of the bands history. cant tell u how much time and effort this saved me. genius!

I’ve always known that Mick Ronson was crucial in the success of David Bowie. but i was thought it was mostly because of his look and stage presence. Since i OD’d on Bowie almost a decade ago, i hardly listen to him anymore. So i had fresh ears when i put on Pin Ups just now. I finally understand how important Ronson was sonically. I know its 101 for any guitarist to recognize a distinct guitar tone, but as a layperson, i found it to be somewhat of a revelation. Its all in the intro of Here Comes The Night…let her rip

my only complaint about this video is the inexplicable lack of camera work on Nick Lowe. and since there are few artists who are cooler than him, its a bit upsetting

i feel a bit ashamed of this omission, but it was a late edition..

I dont know where I’d be without this band. In retrospect, they were my anti-bullying campaign as a teenager.

What I admire most about Ministry (whether you like it or not) is their refined and consistent aesthetic. Both visually and sonically.

If you are reading this, you probably already know im opening for Lady GaGa on her world tour. If not, Im opening for Lady GaGa on her world tour. I’ve gotten a lot of inquiries about the music thats in my show. A big part of the reason im doing this show is to get these inquiries. every artistic project i do has a public service element. the most valuable people in my life are those who have taught me about music and encouraged me to be weird. i want to be that person to anyone who isnt as lucky as i was to have those people around.
